Appointment of new Chief Financial Officer

Smart Metering Systems plc (AIM: SMS.L) is pleased to announce the appointment of David Harris as Chief Financial Officer of the Company.

Mr Harris, aged 45, is a qualified accountant and was Group Finance Director of British Polythene Industries plc ("BPI") from July 2009 until October 2016 which saw the completion of the recommended offer for BPI from RPC Group plc. During his tenure as Group Finance Director at BPI, he was involved in a number of major debt financings, and oversaw an active acquisition and disposal programme. Mr Harris is member and past-Chairman of the Scottish Finance Directors Group, a member of the committee of ACCA Scotland and a member of the Policy Steering Group of the Major Energy Users Council.

Mr Harris succeeds Glen Murray, who has served as Chief Financial Officer of SMS since 2011 and who has been an integral member of the SMS management team through its successful AIM IPO and the subsequent period of significant growth. Mr Murray is planning to take up new business opportunities and the planned succession for the CFO role will see Mr Murray step down from his formal role with the Board with immediate effect but he will assist with the transition process for a period of time.
