Windar Photonics announcing new order for the Indian market

Windar Photonics plc (AIM:WPHO), the technology group that has developed a cost efficient and innovative LiDAR wind sensor for use on electricity generating wind turbines, is pleased to announce an order of 5 WindEYE™ LiDAR units from an Indian IPP for immediate delivery. The order for the five WindEYE™ LiDAR units includes an option for an additional purchase of 35 WindEYE™ LiDAR units after an initial direct turbine integration period.

The Indian IPP operates and manages 800MW of assets in India and is one of the leading IPP's in the country. The LiDAR units will be installed on wind turbines located in India in conjunction with an Indian OEM.

The LiDAR units will be directly integrated with the wind turbines control systems, allowing the wind turbine control system to receive measurement data directly from the Windar LiDAR sensor. The integration enables the wind turbine to yaw according to the oncoming wind, hence increasing the annual power generation by 1-4% and enhancing the life span of the wind turbine, as damaging loads affecting the wind turbine are reduced.

Jørgen Korsgaard Jensen, Interim Chief Executive Officer of the Company, commented:

"Despite not having a local Windar sales and service presence in India, we have had a few trials in the Indian market during the last couple of years. This order is an important step forward in India for Windar Photonics and we look forward to working with the IPP on the optimization of its fleet of wind turbines in the future. The direct OEM integration particularly is important in order to maximize the benefits of retro-fitting WindEye™ LiDAR units. Following our recent appointments of new distributors in the Turkish and Italian markets, we similarly plan to expand our presence in India and other potential growth markets in Asia in the near future."
