CMA ENERGY MARKET INVESTIGATION - PROVISIONAL DECISION ON REMEDIES

SSE plc notes today's publication by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) of its Provisional Decision on Remedies in its GB energy market investigation. The investigation started in June 2014 and has looked right across the supply and acquisition of energy in the Great Britain market.  The CMA will consult on its Provisional Decision on Remedies, which focus largely on the supply of energy, and SSE will submit comprehensive responses in the coming weeks.

Since a market investigation was first proposed in March 2014, SSE has argued that energy markets in Great Britain are generally well-functioning and competitive; while recognising the benefits of reforms that are in the interests of customers. SSE is still assessing the details of the publication and will continue to engage with the CMA investigation to help build a lasting settlement for the benefit of customers.

Alistair Phillips-Davies, SSE's Chief Executive, said:

"Today's publication by the CMA is a substantial package and SSE will now consider these remedies in detail. We will welcome remedies that benefit customers, work in practice and can be implemented pragmatically in this dynamic and changing retail market which is undergoing significant modernisation."
