A vehicle caught fire in Sotkamo Silver's mine this morning shortly before 9 AM. All 18 people currently in the mine are in a safe shelter below the smoke level and are not exposed to it. They have all been contacted and are not in immediate danger.
"The burning truck was located at a depth of approximately 100 meters, and the cause of the fire is not yet known. The rescue service arrived at the scene at 9:45 AM and is leading the rescue operations. Production has been temporarily halted, and the duration of the shutdown is still unknown. The company will provide further updates on the consequences of the accident as more details become available," says Mikko Jalasto, CEO of Sotkamo Silver.
