CURRICULUM VITAE

In my professional life, I try to choose paths which allow me to contribute to addressing one of the greatest challenges of our times: a societal transformation towards sustainability. Finality, values and meaning are at the core of my choices.

After graduating in particle physics and a first stimulating experience in industry in a start-up company (IBA) where I became VP Marketing and Sales, I decided to focus on environmental challenges. I completed a PhD in Ecological Economics and have been working on environmental issues and sustainability governance for the last two decades, focusing on environmental governance; science-policy interfaces; decision-making and policy formation under conditions of complexity; integration of natural and social sciences; environmental research strategies; sustainability strategies of corporations and business ethics.

Most of the research, teaching or consulting projects in which I am currently involved are European or international in scope. These days I mainly work in the areas of biodiversity governance, precaution and innovation, nuclear governance in a post-Fukushima world and business sustainability. I have also worked in areas such as climate change, radioactive waste management policies, or the EU chemical and pesticides policies.

I am frequently invited to speak at international conferences and to participate in advisory boards, international juries and evaluation committees. As the Chair of Scientific Committee of the European Environment Agency, I am permanently invited to the Agency's Management Board and Bureau. I regularly teach on sustainability issues (graduate to post-doc level) and on business sustainability (MBA and executive MBA students).
