Communiqué: - Investment project for the 400 kV OHL Gutinas – Smardan

The National Power Grid Company Transelectrica SA informs the shareholders and investors about the Ministry of European Funds' approval of a 31.019 million Euro European non-reimbursable financing for the "400 kV Overhead Line Gutinas-Smardan", under the Large Infrastructure Operational Programme (POIM) 2014-2020. The total investment value is 56.8 million Euros.

The 400 kV Overhead Line Gutinas-Smardan will be 140 kilometres long and cross 25 localities of 3 counties (Bacau, Vrancea and Galati). In accordance with the project implementation schedule, the investment will begin this year with commissioning term in December 2022.

As regards the national importance and benefits of this project, the 400 kV OHL Gutinas-Smardan provides:

  • Enhancing the Electricity Transmission Grid and increasing the transmission capacity for the electricity generated in Dobrogea region to the consumption centres in the country;
  • Avoiding limiting the electricity output of wind parks from Dobrogea region;
  • Increasing the safety of consumers' supply in Moldova region and removing congestions in the Electricity Transmission Grid.

Building this new high voltage line in the region will consolidate the integration of the regional and European energy market by providing north-south and east-west interconnections and internal lines in order to complete the internal market and to integrate the output of renewable sources, thus contributing to developing the European electricity transmission infrastructure.

The project of the 400 kV overhead line Gutinas-Smardan has been included in the 2018-2027 Development Plan of the Electricity Transmission Network, approved by ANRE and endorsed by the Ministry of Economy.
