Eiffage, through Smulders (Eiffage Métal's Belgian subsidiary), has won eight major contracts in the growing offshore wind sector since the beginning of 2024. These contracts consolidate Smulders' position as the European market leader in turnkey metal structures for this sector. Two new contracts signed recently take the company's total order intake over 2024 to more than €1 billion.
As part of the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farm developments off the coast of Poland, Equinor and Polenergia signed an EPC contract with Smulders covering the platforms and jacket foundations for the two electrical substations. Smulders will be responsible for the design, procurement, manufacturing, testing and commissioning of these two substations (excluding electrical systems). Design studies are already in progress, to be followed by fabrication at Smulders production sites in Belgium, and final assembly of the platforms in the Netherlands. Phased delivery of the two substations will take place between mid-2026 and mid-2027.
In the same time, also for Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3, a second contract in consortium was signed to manufacture 100 transition pieces. The consortium made of Smulders and Sif will be responsible for manufacturing, procurement, testing and commissioning. Secondary steel will be manufactured at Smulders plants in Poland. Final assembly will take place at the company's site in Hoboken, Belgium.
Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 are two separate projects, each with an expected installed capacity of 720 MW – a combined total of more than 1.44 GW. Once operational, they will supply more than two million households with green energy.
