In mid-September, Eiffage announced 2024 orders worth more than €1 billion for Smulders, after the Belgian subsidiary of Eiffage Métal secured eight major contracts in the growing offshore wind sector.
Among these, Smulders won the EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contract from Chantiers de l'Atlantique, acting on behalf of RTE, for jacket foundations for the two electrical substations at the future Centre Manche 1 and Centre Manche 2 offshore wind farms.
Each jacket structure will weigh approximatively 7,000 tonnes and support an electrical transformer substation of 1.25 GW capacity.
Supported by teams from Eiffage Métal in France, Smulders will begin construction of the two jacket foundations at its Belgian production sites from 2026, with final assembly to follow at its yard in Vlissingen in the Netherlands. Handover of these foundations is due in 2029 for Centre Manche 1 and 2030 for Centre Manche 2.
This contract consolidates Smulders' position as the European market leader in turnkey metal structures for this sector, and Eiffage's ability to contribute to France's ambitions in the energy mix and the development of renewable energies.
