In 2024 Bologna Airport recorded the best year in its history, exceeding 10 million passengers for the first time. To be precise, Marconi hosted 10,764,687 passengers, equal to a growth of 8.1% on 2023.
After a positive start of the year, with passenger increases always above 7%, Bologna Airport has consolidated its growth since the Summer, reaching over one million monthly passengers for five months in a row: in May, June, July, August and September.
In particular, in August, with 1,119,370 passengers, Marconi achieved its best monthly figure ever, while Sunday 30 June was the busiest day in the history of the airport, with 43,266 passengers between arrivals and departures.
Regarding the overall data for the year, in 2024 passengers on domestic flights were 2,657,532, up by 9.0% on 2023, while passengers on international flights were 8,107,155, up by 7.8% about 2023.
Annual movements were 77,650, up 5.3% on 2023, while freight were 45,466 tons, up 10.4%.
In the ranking of the "most flown" destinations in 2024 we find Catania, Tirana and Barcelona in the top three places, with a strong leap forward (+53%) for the Albanian city, which knocked Palermo off the podium, this year in fourth place (it was third in 2023). The other cities in the "top ten" ranking are: Paris Charles de Gaulle, Madrid, Istanbul, London Heathrow, Bucharest and Frankfurt.
With reference to the data for the month of December 2024, overall passengers of Marconi Airport were 717,260, for a growth of 8.5% on the same month of 2023. Passengers on national flights were 171,882 (+6.1% on 2023), those on international flights 545,378 (+9.3% on 2023). Air movements in the month were 5,445, equal to an increase of 3.7% on December 2023, while freight were 3,594 tons, up by 9.8% on 2023.
The favorite destinations in December were: Catania, Barcelona, Tirana, Paris CDG, Madrid, Palermo, Istanbul, Bucharest, London Heathrow and Rome Fiumicino.

Aeroporto Guglielmo Marconi di Bologna, classified as a "strategic airport" in the centre-north area of the National Airports Plan prepared by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, recorded in 2023 around 10 million passengers, ranking as the seventh biggest Italian airport by number of passengers (Source: Assaeroporti – Aeroporti2030). Located in the heart of the Emilian food valley and the automotive and packaging industrial districts, the airport has a catchment area of about 11 million inhabitants and around 47,000 companies, with a strong propensity to exports and internationalisation and with commercial expansion policies to Eastern Europe and Asia.
As for airport infrastructure, the airport has among its strategic objectives in the next few years an important development plan that mainly concerns the expansion of the terminal, particularly in the parts of security checks and gate area. The company's aim is to make Bologna Airport one of the most modern and functional in Italy, an important gateway to the city and region.
