Veidekke ASA: To build Swan eco-labelled school in Røyken

Veidekke has been awarded the contract by Røyken municipality to build the new

Torvbråten school. The school and a multi-purpose hall will be built using

massive wood, and the project has lofty ambitions regarding the environment.

This is a design and build construction contract valued at NOK 187 million,

excluding VAT.

The new school will have two parallel classes for pupils from the first to

seventh years. The school will have a floor area of 4,200 m2 and will total

6,700 m2 across two storeys with teaching areas and a multi-purpose hall.

Veidekke's contract also includes developing the outdoor areas around the

school. The site is 31,000 m2 in size.

"Good school buildings are among the most important things we can build, and

we're very pleased to have won the competition for this contract. We're pleased

to have gained the confidence of Røyken municipality and are looking forward to

a good partnership with Røyken eiendom," says district manager Gro Brathovde of

Veidekke Bygg Buskerud.

Torvbråten school is an interesting project that focuses on sustainable

solutions, which is in line with Veidekke's environmental ambitions. The school

will achieve the Swan eco-label and will be built from massive wood, and will

also have solar panels and surface water retention on the roof surfaces.

"Now we and our partners will carry out the project in the best possible way in

collaboration with the municipality's team. Construction work will start with

the demolition of the existing school when the school term ends in June, and the

new school is scheduled to open when the term starts in January 2021," Brathovde

concludes.
