Veidekke ASA: To build new Tveiterås school in Bergen

Bergen municipality has awarded Veidekke the contract to build the new Tveiterås

school. The project has a distinct environmental profile with requirements for

the use of environmentally friendly materials and a fossil-free construction

site. The contract is a design and build contract valued at NOK 102 million

excluding VAT.

Tveiterås school is a combined primary and secondary school, and is the only

special school in Bergen municipality for pupils with severe learning

difficulties/mental disabilities who need specially adapted teaching

facilities. The school accepts pupils from grades 1 to 10 and is specially

adapted for pupils with autism. The current school building is outdated, and

also has a design that is unsuitable for wheelchair users. The new building will

be approximately 3,500 m[2] across two floors, and will be a school that

respects the landscape and users.

Tveiterås school, and in partnership with Bergen municipality we will provide a

modern, functional and good school for pupils and staff. Building good schools

is one of the most meaningful things we as a contractor can do, especially this

school for pupils who perhaps most need a well-adapted learning environment"

says district manager Erlend Bygnes of Veidekke Bygg Bergen.

The first thing to take place at the site is to demolish the current

building. This will start in the new year, and will be followed by a

construction period with planned completion during the spring of 2023.
