Veidekke ASA: Extends and modernises for Nortura in Tønsberg

Veidekke ASA: Extends and modernises for Nortura in Tønsberg

Veidekke has signed a contract with Nortura SA for the extension and conversion

of Nortura's production plant in Tønsberg. The contract involves erecting

several new buildings, converting the existing slaughterhouse and demolition

work. The contract is a collaborative construction project with a target price

of NOK 240 million excluding VAT.

The five new buildings will total 6,500 m[2] in size and will comprise a hanging

hall, cutting department, converter, refrigeration centre and various technical

facilities. Around 3,000 m[2 ]of the current slaughterhouse will be remodelled,

and this includes the entire slaughter department, shock freezer, intestine

cleaner, barn and break room. The factory's footprint increases with 3,000 m[2].

The supporting systems for the new building will mainly consist of prefabricated

concrete on a foundation of elements and soles. Both the new builds and

conversion will be carried out with the slaughterhouse in full operation, with

the exception of a period in the spring/summer of 2022 when the slaughter

department will be closed in order to allow for work along the actual slaughter

line.

Nortura Tønsberg is Norway's larges sausage factory and also produces all Gilde

liver paste. Following this comprehensive modernisation, Nortura will move all

slaughter and cutting of swine in Eastern Norway to the plant in Tønsberg, which

will also increase staffing at the plant by around 70 man-years for cutting and

15 for slaughtering.

Construction has already started, and completion is scheduled for the spring of

2023. The project is a part of Nortura's ongoing industrial structure

project (https://www.nortura.no/nyheter/om-industristruktur-prosjektet).
