Veidekke: To build Halsen school in Stjørdal

Veidekke: To build Halsen school in Stjørdal

Following the completion of the interaction phase, Veidekke has entered into an

agreement with Stjørdal municipality to build the new Halsen elementary school.

This will be a school with important environmental qualities that will welcome

the 540 students. The commission is a collaborative project valued at NOK 280

million excluding VAT.

"We are grateful for the trust placed in us. The interaction phase has been

characterised by good cooperation with focus on goals and solutions from

everyone involved. Users have played a large and important role in the

development of the project, and they have managed the balance between

aspirations and available funds in a good way. Here we can ascertain that the

municipality has secured the best conditions for a successful and sustainable

school project," says Torgeir Wiig, Director of Veidekke Bygg Trøndelag.

In the summer of 2022, Veidekke won Stjørdal municipality's competition for the

interaction phase for the school based on execution plans, sustainability,

expertise, team composition and price. Since then, a development phase has been

carried out in close cooperation with the municipality and users, where the new

school has been designed based on the municipality's room and functionality

programme.

"The school will have a number of environmental qualities, including solar

panels on the roof and district heating that will also be used during the

construction period. The building is designed to consume 30% less energy than

reference buildings. Rainwater will be reused and an assessment has been carried

out of existing buildings that will be demolished for the reuse of materials,"

Wiig concludes.

The school will be 7,100 m[2] in size, and  will accommodate teaching

facilities, a reception school for immigrants and refugees, a separate section

for special needs children, a library, Newton room and a volleyball hall in

addition to a large outdoor area that will also serve as a park. The school will

not be environmentally certified, but the principles of the BREEAM NOR standard

will be followed.

The new school will be located on the site of the current school building, which

will be demolished. A temporary school has been erected to be used during the

construction period. Demolition work has started and excavation work will start

in August/September. The new school is scheduled to open for the start of the

school year in August 2025.
