Venlo, The Netherlands, 29 October 2007 - Océ N.V., a prominent global leader in professional printing and document management, today launched Document Services Valley in its Dutch home town of Venlo. Document Services Valley will focus on the research and development of document related services. In this new Valley, Océ intends to join forces with authoritative business partners and is currently in discussion with several. Partnership is key to develop the new services and test them in the market as quickly as possible. Effective 2008, some 50 experts will be employed by Document Services Valley. Demand for a document management resource such as the Valley has risen considerably and is attributable to various business trends such as new corporate governance legislation like Sarbanes-Oxley.
Rokus van Iperen, chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at Océ, announced the launch of this initiative during a symposium today in Venlo marking the company's 130 year jubilee. "The establishment of Document Services Valley will accelerate the professionalization of document management services," the Océ chairman said at the symposium.
"Provincial or state authorities, care centers, banks and social security services expect Océ to develop innovative solutions," said Van Iperen. "These solutions enable them to meet the requirements of new legislation pertaining to digital storage and retrieval of millions of documents." Moreover, organizations increasingly realize that outsourcing of document processes leads to lower costs and higher quality. This Océ initiative to set up a center for research into document management services is fully in line with this trend. The Valley will function alongside the seven R&D centers that Océ operates worldwide to develop printers and software. Océ invests 7% of its annual sales (2006: € 221 million) in research and development. Across the world, some 1,800 Océ specialists work on the development of new professional printing systems and the corresponding software.
Océ has been active for many years in this field through its Business Services division, with annualized sales of approximately € 500 million. Services-related sales are currently growing faster than printer-related sales. Océ expects this trend to continue. Against this background, Océ in 2006 acquired CaseData, a U.S. company
that delivers special technology, called e-discovery, to large companies and legal firms that need to select key documents from millions of dossiers to build a file of potentially relevant papers in preparation for a court case.
