PRESS RELEASE Rotterdam, 2 February 2016
Subsidiary of tea trader Van Rees Group takes over Container Tea & Commodities
Amsterdam Commodities N.V. (Acomo), the Euronext Amsterdam-listed spices, nuts, tea and food ingredients trading group, has taken its first step into the Indian market via subsidiary Van Rees Group (VRG). A newly established VRG subsidiary has acquired the assets of Container Tea & Commodities (CT&C), which is based in Coonoor in India. The move, to be considered as a relatively small transaction, gives VRG its first physical presence in the world's second largest tea producing nation.
CT&C is active in the sale of tea worldwide and has a stable and reputable customer base. It works closely with a select group of high quality tea plantations in southern India, all of which are Rainforest Alliance certified. Most also hold fair trade and/or UTZ certificates.
The newly established company, Container Tea – Van Rees Trading Private Limited, will be based in Coonoor and headed up by CT&C's former owner Indrajit Chatterjee. Chatterjee has been involved in the tea industry for 40 years, starting at Unilever and then founding CT&C in 1983. The company is now one of the leading suppliers of quality southern Indian tea.
VRG is fully committed to cooperating closely with the company's current tea plantation partners and to gradually expanding the business.
