ABN AMRO climbs steeply up the Dow Jones Sustainability Index

This year, ABN AMRO made a steep climb up the globally renowned Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DSJI) ranking. ABN AMRO scored 87 out of 100 points, nine points higher than in 2015. This puts the bank in the top 15% in the banking industry.

Caroline Princen, member of ABN AMRO's Managing Board: 'We now rank among the top 15% of all banks assessed, a target we had set ourselves for 2017. We are proud of this result. We will continue to make improvements in our environmental, social and economic performance in the years ahead.'

The research is carried out by RobecoSAM, which analyses the economic, social and environmental performance of over 3,000 listed companies each year. The average score achieved by banks this year was 61 points; the highest score in the banking industry is 95. ABN AMRO scored well above the industry average in the category human rights and labour practice. Other areas in which the bank's sustainability efforts were rewarded are materiality and information security.

ABN AMRO seeks to be a better bank contributing to a better world and wants to be positively recognised for its position on sustainability and transparency. In 2015, ABN AMRO started translating its sustainability strategy into measurable targets, using the Dow Jones Sustainability Index as a benchmark for its sustainability performance.
