GO internet activated the first radio base station that uses 4.5G technology

Rome, 17 October 2016 – GO internet has launched a new way to access the Internet in Italy, with Instant Fiber, an innovative technology that will revolutionize Internet and mobile connectivity, offering the same speed as fiber optics but the ease of use and quick access typical of wireless – major advantages for users – by activating the first radio base station that uses 4.5G technology.

GO internet set up a base station antenna of new generation; an achievement "in line with one of our missions," says Giuseppe Colaiacovo, President of the company, adding: "This initiative will help us further expand our market influence in Emilia Romagna and Marche, tripling the number of customers for each radio base station. Our recent agreement with Enel Open Fiber is also strategic in this regard since GO internet can take advantage of it to connect its 4.5G base stations directly to their fiber optics backbone."

4.5G technology and the new radio base station offer many advantages over LTE, thanks to a connection speed of up to 300 megabits/s, 3 times faster than classic Fiber-To-The-Cabinet (FTTC). The new radio base stations are equipped with 8 transmitters and 8 receivers per sector and the technological developments will provide users with speeds 6 to 7 times higher than 4G.
