**ForFarmers sharpens its sustainability ambitions for a future-proof agricultural sector** 

**ForFarmers is committed to future-proof farming through knowledge, advice, support and products on farm. Sustainability plays an essential role in this and is therefore a fundamental part of its mission 'For the Future of Farming'. In that context, ForFarmers has further sharpened its sustainability ambitions to be able to support farmers and chain partners in the sector's transition. ForFarmers aims to reduce its own CO<sup>2</sup> emissions by one-third by 2030 compared to the year 2022. In addition,** 

**ForFarmers aims to increase the use of circular raw materials by one-third and is committed to protecting biodiversity.**

#### **One-third reduction of CO<sup>2</sup> emissions**

ForFarmers aims to reduce CO<sup>2</sup> emissions from its own operations by one-third by 2030. This is a step towards its ambition to be net

climate neutral by 2050. This will contribute to making the chain more sustainable, in line with the Paris climate agreement. This will be achieved by reducing emissions in its own operations by lowering its energy consumption, and where possible, make use of renewable energy (scope 1 and 2). In addition, ForFarmers is focusing on making its raw material procurement more sustainable and reducing on-farm emissions (scope 3).

These emission targets are being validated by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) so that they are fully in line with the Paris Climate Agreement.

# **One-third more circular raw materials**

Livestock farming is crucial to producing affordable and sustainable food by returning co-products or residual flows from the human food industry back into the food chain as much as possible. By processing these co-products into animal feed, they are converted into highquality proteins such as milk, meat and eggs. This makes livestock farming an indispensable part of the food chain. ForFarmers aims to increase the share of circular raw materials by one-third, meaning that 65% of the raw materials used will be circular by 2030. The recent acquisition of Van Triest Veevoeders B.V. is an important step in achieving this ambition.

# **Protecting biodiversity**

ForFarmers is committed to protecting biodiversity by aiming to responsibly source 100% of all raw materials by 2030. There is also a focus on advising farmers on sustainable land use and reducing nitrogen emissions.

# **ForFarmers scherpt duurzaamheidsambities aan voor toekomstbestendige agrarische sector**

**ForFarmers zet zich in voor een toekomstbestendig boerenbedrijf met haar aanbod van kennis, advies, ondersteuning en producten op het boerenerf. Duurzaamheid speelt hierbij een essentiële rol en vormt dan ook een fundamenteel onderdeel van haar missie 'For the Future of Farming'. In dat kader heeft ForFarmers haar duurzaamheidsambities verder aangescherpt om met boeren en ketenpartners stappen te zetten in de transitie van de sector. ForFarmers streeft ernaar tegen 2030 de eigen CO<sup>2</sup> -emissies met een derde te hebben teruggebracht ten opzichte van het jaar 2022. Daarnaast wil ForFarmers het gebruik** 

**van circulaire grondstoffen met een derde vergroten en zich inzetten voor de bescherming van biodiversiteit.**

#### **Een derde minder CO<sup>2</sup> -emissies**

ForFarmers streeft ernaar om tegen 2030 de CO<sup>2</sup> -emissies van haar eigen activiteiten met een derde te verminderen. Dit is een stap

richting haar ambitie om in 2050 netto-klimaatneutraal te zijn. Hiermee wordt bijgedragen aan de verduurzaming van de keten, in lijn met het klimaatakkoord van Parijs.

Dit wordt bereikt door in de eigen operatie het energieverbruik te verlagen en, waar mogelijk, te vergroenen, waardoor de uitstoot vermindert (scope 1 en 2).Daarnaast richt ForFarmers zich op het verder verduurzamen van de inkoop van grondstoffen en het terugdringen van emissies op het boerenerf (scope 3).

Deze emissiedoelstellingen worden nu door het Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) gevalideerd zodat deze volledig in lijn zijn met het Klimaatakkoord van Parijs.

# **Een derde meer circulaire grondstoffen**

De veehouderij is van cruciaal belang voor de productie van betaalbaar en duurzaam voedsel door reststromen uit de humane voedselindustrie zoveel mogelijk terug te brengen in de voedselketen. Deze reststromen worden verwerkt in diervoeders en worden op deze manier omgezet in hoogwaardige eiwitten zoals melk, vlees en eieren. De veehouderij is hierdoor een onmisbaar onderdeel van de voedselketen. ForFarmers streeft naar vergroting van het aandeel circulaire grondstoffen met een derde, wat betekent dat 65% van de gebruikte grondstoffen tegen 2030 circulair moet zijn. De recente overname van Van Triest Veevoeders B.V. is een belangrijke stap in het realiseren van deze ambitie.

# **Bescherming biodiversiteit**

ForFarmers zet zich in voor bescherming van biodiversiteit door te streven naar verantwoorde inkoop van 100% van alle grondstoffen tegen 2030. Daarnaast is er focus op het adviseren van boeren met betrekking tot duurzaam landgebruik en het verminderen van de stikstofuitstoot.
