AGATOS RECEIVES CONFIRMATION OF THE REGISTRATION OF THE "BIOSIP" PATENT IN CHINA

"BIOSIP" IS THE PROCESS DEVELOPED AND PATENTED BY AGATOS IN NINE KEY COUNTRIES CONCERNING THE RECOVERY OF ENERGY AND BIOMETHANE FROM ORGANIC WASTE AND BY-PRODUCTS

Milan, 15 July 2020 – Agatos SpA announces today that its subsidiary Agatos Green Power Lemuria Srl, holder of the "BIOSIP" patents, the process technology for the production of energy and biomethane, has just obtained confirmation of the registration of the patent in China, with validity until 2036. The Chinese patent is based on the international agreement "Patent Cooperation Treaty" (PCT) and has been obtained after a qualification process lasting over 4 years. Agatos obtained the original BIOSIP patent in Italy in 2017.

The Chinese patent confirms the importance of the international market potential of the BIOSIP process. This process is used to produce efficiently and sustainably biomethane, liquefied biomethane and / or electricity from urban solid waste, agricultural waste, livestock manure and slurry. It also lends itself to the recovery of energy and biomethane from civil sewage sludge. These characteristics make the process particularly suitable for the Chinese market, which is at the beginning of a period of transition towards a circular economy with increasingly sustainable energy production.

The BIOSIP patent is already formally registered in the USA and in Europe, always on the basis of the PCT agreement as well as in each of the following countries: France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Romania, Spain and Switzerland, on the basis of the "European Patent Practice "(EPP).

The first industrial project using as feedstock the organic fraction of urban solid waste and industrial food processing waste based on the BIOSIP process will be built by Agatos in Marcallo, in the province of Milan. The two recently announced projects for the production of liquefied biomethane from zootechnical farm waste are also based on the BIOSIP process.

The Agatos President, Ingmar Wilhelm, said: "Obtaining confirmation of the registration of the BIOSIP patent in China confirms the worldwide importance of the innovation represented by the BIOSIP process and the ability of Agatos to contribute proprietary technologies in a concrete way to the development of the circular economy. This result will allow Agatos to promote the BIOSIP process in selected markets, including China, either as developer and EPC contractor or on the basis of licensing agreements. Obtaining this latest patent further enhances the potential of the BIOSIP business line, which increasingly represents a growing source of revenue in Agatos' business plan, which is therefore in the process of being updated. "
