Another month of one million passengers for Bologna Marconi Airport, the fifth time in a row during the year. After May, June, July and August, in fact, also in September monthly passengers exceeded the million, reaching 1,060,101, with an increase of 6.1% on the same month of 2023. It is the first time, in the history of the airport, which passengers exceed the threshold of one million in September.
In detail, passengers on international flights recorded the greatest increases in September (803,525, +7.5% compared to September 2023), but passengers on national flights also recorded good results (256,576, +1.8% on September 2023). Movements also grew, with a lesser extent, to 7,389 (+4.2%), while freight showed a significant increase, equal to 3,899 tons (+14.9%).
The favorite destinations in September were: Catania, Tirana, Barcelona, Palermo, Paris CDG, Frankfurt, Istanbul, Madrid, Rome Fiumicino and Cagliari.
In the first nine months of 2024, overall Marconi passengers were over 8 million, 8,334,322 to be precise, an increase of 8.1% on the same period of 2023, while movements were 59,768, with an increase of 6.1% on 2023.
Freight in the period January-September were 33,898 tons, with an increase of 11.2% on 2023.

Aeroporto Guglielmo Marconi di Bologna, classified as a "strategic airport" in the centre-north area of the National Airports Plan prepared by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, recorded in 2023 around 10 million passengers, ranking as the seventh biggest Italian airport by number of passengers (Source: Assaeroporti – Aeroporti2030). Located in the heart of the Emilian food valley and the automotive and packaging industrial districts, the airport has a catchment area of about 11 million inhabitants and around 47,000 companies, with a strong propensity to exports and internationalisation and with commercial expansion policies to Eastern Europe and Asia.
As for airport infrastructure, the airport has among its strategic objectives in the next few years an important development plan that mainly concerns the expansion of the terminal, particularly in the parts of security checks and gate area. The company's aim is to make Bologna Airport one of the most modern and functional in Italy, an important gateway to the city and region.
