Bologna, 23 July 2020 - Aeroporto Guglielmo Marconi di Bologna s.p.a. has today defined and finalised with Intesa Sanpaolo bank a financing operation for €33.9 million, assisted by the guarantees issued by SACE as part of its Garanzia Italia programme.
The financing operation, structured with a duration of 72 months, is part of a financial consolidation plan aimed at meeting the increased need for working capital and supporting the business plan.
"We have entered this critical phase related to the extraordinary scale of the Sars-Covid-19 pandemic with a solid equity structure and a positive financial position, thanks also to the result of a constantly profitable management in recent years" - said the CEO of Aeroporto di Bologna Nazareno Ventola - "and we have, however, as airport management company, been strongly affected negatively - as constantly reported - by the lockdown period and the current uncertain situation with only partial recovery of activities. Today we proudly announce the conclusion of the second of the two financing operations activated through the so-called "Decreto Liquidità". This operation will help us to support our infrastructure development plan, in the hope that the health and economic conditions will allow a more significant but progressive recovery to pre-pandemic levels in the medium term".

Aeroporto Guglielmo Marconi di Bologna, classified as a "strategic airport" in the center-north area of the National Airports Plan prepared by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, in 2019 was the seventh biggest Italian airport by passenger numbers, with 9.4 million passengers (Source: Assaeroporti). Located in the heart of the Emilian food valley and the automotive and packaging industrial districts, the airport has a catchment area of about 11 million inhabitants and around 47,000 companies, with a strong propensity to exports and internationalization and with commercial expansion policies to Eastern Europe and Asia.
The presence at the airport of some of the largest airlines in Europe along with some of the leading low-cost carriers and the close link with European continental hubs make Bologna Italy's forth airport for global connectivity (Source: ICCSAI - Fact Book 2019).
As for airport infrastructure, the airport has among its strategic objectives in the next few years an important development plan that mainly concerns the expansion of the terminal, particularly in the parts of security checks and gate area. The company's aim is to make Bologna Airport one of the most modern and functional in Italy, an important gateway to the city and region.
