BOLOGNA AIRPORT, 230 THOUSAND PASSENGERS IN JULY Domestic destinations prevail: Rome Fiumicino, Catania, Palermo, Olbia and Cagliari are in the "top five" ranking

As Airlines have been gradually restarting their connections from most the EU area and Schengen Countries, Bologna Airport's traffic volumes have been growing as well.

In July, 228,070 passengers were recorded, a decrease of 75.2% on the same month in 2019, but accounting for a strong growth as compared with June 2020, when only 35,000 passengers passed through Bologna Airport. This trend was also triggered by the possibility of using full-load aircrafts, in compliance with the high-safety standards of the aviation industry, implementing European-approved protocols, from the sophisticated air-filtration systems inside the airplanes to important investments on processes and resources activated by Airports' Management Companies in full cooperation with Authorities.

Flight movements were 2,448, -64.4% on July 2019, but four times as many in comparison with the 615 flights operated in June 2020.

In detail, international passengers were 142,906 (-80.5% on 2019), while domestic passengers were 85,164 (-54.3%). As was the case in June, the pandemic outbreak had harsher effects on international flights which have always been Bologna Airport's strength.

This trend was confirmed by July's most-popular-destination ranking which reports the Italian "top-five's": Rome Fiumicino, Catania, Palermo, Olbia and Cagliari. It results 2020 is the year of Summer holidays in Italy for Bologna Airport's passengers who in July 2019 had instead preferred Barcelona, Catania, London, Frankfurt and Madrid.

Air freight recorded a decrease of 19.7% on the same month of 2019 totaling 3,015 tons.

In the period January – July 2020, 1,661,926 passengers passed through Bologna Airport (-69.0%), with 16,513 flight movements (-60.8%) and 18,732 tons of air freight (- 19.3%).
