Though traffic data are still far from pre-Covid records, Summer has come to Bologna Airport as well. In June 327,244 total passengers were recorded: this figure is not comparable with June 2020 (when slightly over 35 thousand passengers were recorded), but it does account for a sign of partial recovery though still far from 2019 records (decrease of -62.1%).
Recovery signs are currently more evident on domestic traffic. In detail, in June 2021 domestic passengers were 155,267 (-12.4% on June 2019), while international passengers were 171,977 (-75.0% on June 2019). Flight movements were 3,156 (- 51.7%), while air freight amounted to 3,238 tons, an increase of 5.6% on June 2019.
This is the ranking of June's most popular destinations: Catania, Palermo, Brindisi, Olbia, Bari, Tirana, Barcelona, Madrid, Cagliari and Bucharest.
In the first half of the year, total passengers were 770,396, a decrease of 82.7% on the first quarters in 2019, with 9,150 movements (-74.1%) and 18,444 tons of air freight (- 5.2%).
During 2021, traffic data showed a slow but progressive growing trend, mainly supported by the widening of the vaccine campaign and consequent re-openings, both domestic and European – from 80 thousand passengers travelling through Bologna Airport in January, to 140 thousand registered in May to reach 327 thousand passengers in June.
The difference with pre-pandemic records is still remarkable, but the vaccine campaign being strengthened and European Greenpass being introduced from 1 st July, a further traffic recovery is very likely to be triggered in the next few months.
