BOLOGNA AIRPORT: OVER HALF A MILLION PASSENGERS IN JULY The increase in the number of vaccinated people and the re-openings, both domestic and European, are starting to produce significant effects on passenger traffic

Thanks to the increase in the number of vaccinated people and to the re-openings, both domestic and European , Bologna Airport, although still far from the pre-Covid traffic levels, is beginning to see the first signs of a renewed "desire to fly" of Italians.

In fact, in July, the total passengers of Marconi were 530,967 (-42.1% on July 2019, the last year before the pandemic), with a strong leap forward in passengers on domestic flights, which reached 213,906 (in growth of 14.9% on July 2019). On the other hand, passengers on international flights continue to drop to 317,061 (-56.7%).

Aircraft movements were 4,698 (-31.6%), while air freight amounted to 3,327 tons, down 11.4% on the same month of 2019.

A two-speed evolution is therefore being recorded, with passengers on domestic flights that have exceeded pre-pandemic levels and those on international flights still held back by a regulatory and health safety framework, not always easy to understand.

To confirm the current trend, also the "top ten" of the most flown destinations in July, where in the first 5 places we find only Italian airports: Catania, Palermo, Olbia, Bari, Brindisi. In the ranking follow: Tirana, Casablanca, Barcelona, Bucharest and Amsterdam.

In the period January-July 2021 total passengers were 1,301,363, down by 75.7% on the same period of 2019, with 13,848 movements (-67.1%) and 21,771 tons of air freight (-6.2% ).

During 2021 there was a progressive increase in average daily passengers: from 2,500 passengers per day in January to over 17,000 in July.

The difference with the pre-Covid numbers is still significant, but the intensification of the vaccination campaign and the introduction of the European Greenpass are elements that bode well for a further future traffic recovery.
