BOLOGNA AIRPORT: OVER HALF A MILLION PASSENGERS IN SEPTEMBER Two and a half million passengers reached since the beginning of the year

Thanks to the increase in the number of vaccinated people and to the re-openings, both domestic and European , Bologna Airport, although still far from the pre-Covid traffic levels, is beginning to see the first signs of a gradual recovery of passengers, in particular for domestic flights.

In fact, in September, the total passengers of Marconi were 591,893, -33.8% on September 2019, the last year before the pandemic, but with a +296.6% on September 2020, where however the airport was closed for 10 days due to runway maintenance works.

In detail, there was a strong increase in passengers on domestic flights, which reached 201,013, in growth of 14.4% on September 2019 (and +190.8% on September 2020). On the other hand, passengers on international flights were 390,880 (-45.6% on September 2019, but +388.0% on September 2020).

Aircraft movements were 5,013 (-25.2% on September 2019, but +178.5% on the same month of 2020), while air freight amounted to 3,581 tons, in growth of 20.4% on September 2019 and of 82% on September 2020.

A two-speed evolution is therefore confirmed, with passengers on domestic flights that have already exceeded pre-pandemic levels and those on international flights still held back by uncertainties about the international health situation and the different access rules of individual countries.

To confirm the current trend, also the "top ten" of the most flown destinations in September, where in the first 5 places we find 4 Italian airports: Catania, Palermo, Barcelona, Brindisi, Bari. In the ranking follow: Tirana, Casablanca, Madrid, Olbia and Bucharest.

In the first 9 month of 2021 total passengers were 2,511,610, down by 65.0% on the same period of 2019, with 24,162 movements (-56.5%) and 28,000 tons of air freight (- 1.1%). If compared to 2020, the data for the period January-September 2021 mark a +18.3% in passengers, a +11.8% in movements and a +23.6% in goods.

The difference with the pre-Covid numbers is still significant, but the intensification of the vaccination campaign, which has reached 78% of the Italian population, and the introduction of Greenpass also for domestic flights, are elements that bode well for a further future traffic recovery.
