MARCONI AIRPORT, 870 THOUSAND PASSENGERS IN APRIL Monthly data is recovering from 2019 volumes, but the annual figure is still lower than the pre-Covid period

Another month of gradual recovery for Bologna Airport. In April 2023 Marconi recorded 872,805 passengers, with a increase on both April 2022 (+20.4%) and April 2019 (+9.5% on the pre-Covid period).

The annual figure, pairs to 2,674,214 total passengers for the January-April period, is instead positive on 2022 (+34.1%), but still lower than the first four months of 2019 (-3.0%).

In detail, in April 2023 there were 206,418 passengers on domestic flights (+9.3% on the same month of 2022 and +28.2% on April 2019), while there were 666,387 passengers on international flights, up on 2022 (+24.3%) and on 2019 (+4.8%).

Aircraft movements in April were 6,352, up by 12.2% on 2022 and by 2.5% on 2019. The volumes of freight - to 3,071 tonnes - decreased by 5.8% on 2022 and by 1.7% on 2019.

The most flown destinations in April 2023, also thanks to the Easter holidays and to the Spring long weekends, were above all the European capitals and Southern Italy. This is the "top ten" of destinations: Catania, Barcelona, Palermo, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Madrid, Brindisi, Tirana, London Heathrow, Istanbul and Frankfurt.

In the first four months of 2023, Bologna Airport recorded 20,366 total movements (+17.9% on 2022 and -8.9% on 2019), while the freight amounted to 13,749 tonnes (- 0.1% on 2022 and +4.1% on 2019).

Aeroporto Guglielmo Marconi di Bologna, classified as a "strategic airport" in the centre-north area of the National Airports Plan prepared by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, recorded in 2022 8.5 million passengers, ranking as the seventh biggest Italian airport by number of passengers (Source: Assaeroporti – Aeroporti2030). Located in the heart of the Emilian food valley and the automotive and packaging industrial districts, the airport has a catchment area of about 11 million inhabitants and around 47,000 companies, with a strong propensity to exports and internationalisation and with commercial expansion policies to Eastern Europe and Asia.

As for airport infrastructure, the airport has among its strategic objectives in the next few years an important development plan that mainly concerns the expansion of the terminal, particularly in the parts of security checks and gate area.
