Bologna, 13 June 2023 – Aeroporto Guglielmo Marconi di Bologna, as a result of today's meeting held at the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructures about the night flying operations (in the time slot 23.00-06.00), informs that by the end of June there will be implemented at Bologna airport landing and take-off procedures, designed and managed by ENAV s.p.a., in order to further reduce the impact of overflights on the city of Bologna. In particular, throughout the 2023 Summer season and until the end of October, during the night time slot (23.00-06.00), ENAV will implement operational procedures, both on take-off and landing, which avoid overflying the urban neighborhoods, except for essential needs related to the safety and security of operations.
It is estimated to date, on the basis of the first technical simulations carried out also with the contribution of ENAV and ENAC, that this measure will substantially keep the scheduling of passenger and cargo flights for the entire 2023 Summer season unchanged.
Additional measures, confirmed today at the meeting, aiming at full sustainability of the airport development and already approved in recent months within the "Noise Airport Commission", which will consist in anticipated aircraft take-off procedures from Bologna airport, compared to the current ones, will lead to a further significant reduction in the inhabited areas overflown, with important overall benefits in terms of noise footprint.
Furthermore, the management company of Bologna airport also confirmed at today's meeting its commitment to set up a multi-year fund to support soundproofing measures for residential buildings most exposed to the acoustic impact of airport operations; fund whose amount - in addition to the proceeds of the "IRESA" tax purpose - will be defined and delivered taking into account subsequent analysis and agreements.
Overall, and while being reconfirmed by the relevant Authorities, the full legitimacy of the airport operations and acoustic impacts of Bologna airport entirely within the limits of the noise emissions permitted by current regulations, Aeroporto Guglielmo Marconi di Bologna s.p.a. believes that this opportunity of engaging with stakeholders represented a confirmation for the continuous improvement of the airport's activities which will not, however, result in significant impacts and prejudices with respect to its development plans. In this regard, thanks are expressed to ENAV and ENAC for the technical contributions and to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport for its essential role of political guidance, useful in identifying a solution in order to safeguard the airport's operations and the occupation generated by the airport and the business value chain, further mitigating the impact of night flights on the city.
