Press Release
Rome, 3 August 2023 - Mundys continues to deliver on its ESG commitments. Mundys's CO2 emission reduction targets, which the Group has set for all its assets worldwide, have been certified by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi). This partnership, which comprises CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project), the UN Global Compact, WRI (the World Resources Institute) and WWF, is deemed to be the international reference point for the assessment of companies' decarbonisation targets in line with scientific findings.
SBTi considered Mundys's direct emission reduction targets (Scope 1 and Scope 2) to be adequate for keeping global warming below the 1.5°C threshold. This is the most ambitious target set by the SBTi protocol, which only a few groups in the motorway and airport sectors have adopted.
The approved targets include:

Mundys contributes to the UN 2030 Agenda by promoting a sustainable business model across its entire value chain. Currently, over 70 per cent of the materials used for motorway operation and maintenance are recovered and fed into circular economy processes. Managed airports are installing more than 5,000 electric vehicle charging points to serve passengers and the entire airport ecosystem. Technological services, such as Telepass's digital payment solutions and Yunex Traffic's intelligent transport systems, help reduce traffic congestion, air pollution and CO2 emissions.
"We are very proud of this achievement. For us, it is not so much a finish line, as an important stage in a challenging journey. In the last four years our Group has, at global level, cut our direct emissions by over a quarter, thanks to our energy efficiency and infrastructure transition initiatives. We are determined to halve these emissions by 2030 and to get to net zero by 2040 at the latest. The sustainable management of infrastructure and integrated mobility services is one of the cornerstones of Mundys's growth strategy," said Chairman of Mundys, Giampiero Massolo.
