One million passengers: after July, Bologna Airport also recorded "six zeros" traffic in August. The monthly figure, equal to 1,059,853 units, represents a growth of 15.9% on August 2019 (pre-Covid) and 10.8% on August 2022, but remains slightly below the record of July 2023 (1,069,874 passengers).
Passengers on domestic flights grew significantly, especially compared to the period preceding the pandemic (261,296, +46.2% on August 2019 and +9.1% on August 2022), but also significant increases were recorded by passengers on international flights (798,557, +8.6% on 2019 and +11.4% on 2022).
Movements also grew, but to a lesser extent, reaching 7,447 (+12.3% on the same month of 2019 and +8.3% on 2022), while freight were 2,826 tons (+31.5% on August 2019 and - 13.0% on August 2022).
The most "flying" destinations in August were: Catania, Barcelona and Palermo in the first three places, followed by Tirana, Brindisi, Madrid, Olbia, London Heathrow, Paris De Gaulle and Trapani.
In the first eight months of 2023, there were a total of 6,709,504 passengers, up by 6.9% on the same period in 2019 and by 20.2% on the same period in 2022.
The number of flights in the January-August period, 49,265, shows a slight increase (+1.0%) compared to 2019, while movements are up by 13.5% compared to 2022.
Freight transported by air in the first eight months of the year amounted to 27,086 tons: +6.8 on 2019 and unchanged (0.0%) on 2022.

Aeroporto Guglielmo Marconi di Bologna, classified as a "strategic airport" in the centre-north area of the National Airports Plan prepared by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, recorded in 2022 8.5 million passengers, ranking as the seventh biggest Italian airport by number of passengers (Source: Assaeroporti – Aeroporti2030). The company's aim is to make Bologna Airport one of the most modern and functional in Italy, an important gateway to the city and region.
