BOLOGNA AIRPORT: ALMOST 10 MILLION PASSENGERS IN 2023, GROWTH OF 17.4% OVER 2022 Pre-pandemic traffic levels were also exceeded (+6.0% compared to 2019). Passenger peak in summer, with around one million passengers monthly.

Busiest day of the year: July 16, with over 40 thousand passengers.

In 2023, Bologna Airport definitively exceeded pre-pandemic traffic levels and recorded the best year in its history, reaching almost 10 million passengers. To be precise, Marconi Airport registered 9,960,205 passengers, equal to a growth of 17.4% on 2022 and of 6.0% on 2019.

After a still "mild" start to the year, with numbers increasing in 2022 but still lower than the same period of 2019, the first trend reversal was recorded in May, with the progressive passenger figure in the positive range (+0.5%) even compared to the last year without Covid. But it was in the summer that the monthly peak of passengers was highlighted, with around one million passengers per month for June, July, August and September and an increase on the 2019 data which has gradually grown.

In particular, in July Bologna Airport exceeded the threshold of one million passengers for the first time, with a record figure of 1,069,874, the best month ever. Furthermore, Sunday 16 July 2023 was the busiest day in the history of the airport, with 40,535 passengers between arrivals and departures.

Regarding the overall data for the year, in 2023 passengers on national flights were 2,438,699, up by 10.0% on 2022 and by 24.6% on 2019, while passengers on international flights were 7,521,506, up 20.0% on 2022 and 1.1% on 2019.

Annual air movements were 73,718, up 12.5% on 2022 and 1.1% on 2019, while freight were 41,174 tons, down compared to 2022 (-4.1%) but increasing compared to 2019 (+8.3%).

In the ranking of the "most flown" destinations in 2023 we find Catania, Barcelona and Palermo in the top three places (as already for 2022). Followed by: Tirana, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Madrid, London Heathrow, Istanbul, Frankfurt and Brindisi. In particular, we highlight the strong growth of the Albanian capital (+48.8% over 2022) and the entry into the "top ten" of the Turkish city, which recorded an increase in passengers to/from Bologna of 38.5% on the previous year.

With reference to the data for the month of December 2023 alone, total passengers were 660,920, equal to a growth of 14.4% on the same month of 2022, but down by 6.4% on December 2019. Passengers on domestic flights were 162,034 (+13.7% on 2022 and +7.5% on 2019), those on international flights 498,886 (+14.6% on 2022 and -10.5% on 2019). Air movements in the month were 5,252, equal to an increase of 13.1% on December 2022, but 6.4% lower than December 2019, while freight were 3,274 tons, down by 4. 9% on 2022 and in increase of 7.6% on the same month of 2019.
