Another month with more than one million passengers for Bologna Marconi Airport: in August passengers reached 1,119,370, with an increase of 5.6% on the same month in 2023. Having exceeded the level of July 2024, August 2024 becomes the month with the highest number of passengers in the entire history of the airport. Overall, in the 3 summer months of June, July and August, over 3 million people chose to fly to/from Bologna.
In detail, passengers on domestic flights recorded the greatest increases in the month of August (278,188, +6.5% compared to August 2023), but passengers on international flights also recorded good results (841,182, +5.3% on August 2023). Movements also grew, with a lesser extent, to 7,746 (+4.0%), and freight, equal to 3,070 tons (+8.6%).
The most flown destinations in August were: Catania, Barcelona, Tirana, Olbia, Palermo, Madrid, Brindisi, London Heathrow, Cagliari and Rome Fiumicino.
In the first eight months of 2024, overall Marconi passengers were over 7 million, 7,274,221 to be precise, with an increase of 8.4% on the same period of 2023, while movements were 52,379, an increase of 6.3% on 2023.
Freight in the period January-August were 29,998 tons, with an increase of 10.8% on 2023.

Aeroporto Guglielmo Marconi di Bologna, classified as a "strategic airport" in the centre-north area of the National Airports Plan prepared by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, recorded in 2023 around 10 million passengers, ranking as the seventh biggest Italian airport by number of passengers (Source: Assaeroporti – Aeroporti2030). Located in the heart of the Emilian food valley and the automotive and packaging industrial districts, the airport has a catchment area of about 11 million inhabitants and around 47,000 companies, with a strong propensity to exports and internationalisation and with commercial expansion policies to Eastern Europe and Asia.
As for airport infrastructure, the airport has among its strategic objectives in the next few years an important development plan that mainly concerns the expansion of the terminal, particularly in the parts of security checks and gate area. The company's aim is to make Bologna Airport one of the most modern and functional in Italy, an important gateway to the city and region.
