SÜSS MicroTec: sales growth continues Clear profit expected for the full year At Süss MicroTec the growth of orders and sales has continued in the third quarter. Sales came to DM 43.1m, which is 23.6% more than in the same period last year. Orders climbed by 42% to DM 51.3m. On the basis of the extra costs from the acquisition of Fairchilds Semiconductor Equipment Group (SEG), the profit before tax at DM 150,000 is somewhat under the level of the third quarter 1998 (DM 380,000); without these costs, which are identified in the administration and marketing costs, profit would have more than trebled to DM 1.15m. The extra costs stem principally from the introduction of the SEG product lines into the Süss product portfolio; these costs were closed off in the third quarter and so will no longer have a negative effect on the companys results. On the contrary, quick integration and the exceptionally high demand for the acquired product-line is already adding DM 4m to sales in the fourth quarter. In the first nine months of 1999 the loss before tax was reduced to DM 3.6m (4.9m) despite the extra costs. Sales in the period were up 20.6% at DM 110.1m, and orders increased by 27% to DM 128.4m. For the full year of 1999 Süss is planning on an increase in turnover of around 25%. In the fourth quarter alone, because of the good order position, an increase in sales of 40% in comparison with the third quarter is counted on. As the marketing and administration costs are only expected to increase marginally, Süss anticipates a profit for the quarter, and also, because of this, a clear profit for the full year.
