The issuer is solely responsible for the content of this announcement. ——————————————————————————– Sales in first 6 months up 25.2% to EUR 114.2 million – improved earnings Montabaur, August 09, 2001. United Internet has completed a successful first six months in its fiscal year 2001. Compared with the same period last year, consolidated sales were up 25.2 percent to EUR 114.2 million. The group’s earnings also showed a positive development: earnings before interest, taxes and depreciation (EBITDA) rose from EUR 1.5 million to EUR 7.9 million. Pre-tax earnings (EBT) amounted to EUR -14.1 million (2000: EUR -20.2 million). The pre-tax earnings figure includes goodwill amortization of EUR 6.3 million (2000: EUR 5.2 million) and at-equity losses of EUR 3.1 million (2000: EUR 7.0 million). On the basis of these figures, the group’s earnings per share amounted to EUR -0.26 (2000: EUR -0.25). Despite the improvement in consolidated earnings in the first half of fiscal 2001, earnings per share were down on the comparable period last year due mainly to the resulting increase in taxes. In the first half of 2001 the group generated an operative cash flow of EUR 4.9 million (2000: EUR 2.0 million).
