The issuer is solely responsible for the content of this announcement. ——————————————————————————– Norddeutsche Affinerie acquires Prymetall in Stolberg With effect from 1 January 2002 Norddeutsche Affinerie AG (NA) is acquiring Prymetall GmbH & Co. KG (Prymetall) in Stolberg. The acquisition consists of Prymetall together with its 50 per cent subsidiary Schwermetall Halbzeugwerk GmbH & Co. KG (Schwermetall), Stolberg. The group’s total turnover amounted to 290 million EURO in the year 2000. Prymetall produces about 80,000 tonnes of copper products p.a. With a market share of about 6 % in its segment copper rolled products, Prymetall is the fourth largest producer in Europe. Prymetall has a total of about 430 employees. The subsidiary Schwermetall is the largest hot rolling mill for copper materials worldwide and is the most cost-efficient producer of pre-rolled strips. In total, 300,000 tonnes of copper, brass and special copper alloys are produced p.a. Schwermetall has about 320 employees. Prymetall and Wieland-Werke AG, Ulm, each hold a 50 % stake in Schwermetall. Norddeutsche Affinerie is funding the acquisition of Prymetall from its own balance sheet structure. As a result of the acquisition the NA Group consolidated turnover will increase by about 240 million EURO. The acquisition of Prymetall is a forward integration in the value added chain of copper and is thus a further significant step in the growth strategy Vision NA 2000 Plus: . NA gains direct access to the market for copper flat products (sheets and strips) and thus expands its product portfolio . the production of copper shapes at the Hamburg plant is further strengthened .
