The issuer is solely responsible for the content of this announcement. ——————————————————————————– ELMOS: Q3 – Significant Improvement of Sales and Earnings The sales and earnings position of the ELMOS Semiconductor AG (FSE:ELG) decouples more and more from the weak macro-economic situation of the semiconductor industry in general. As a result, the following financial figures were achieved within the third quarter 2002: The quarterly sales of mEUR 29.1 increased by 10% compared with the previous quarter (Q3/01: mEUR 25.7). In the 9M-periode 2002 the total sales reached mEUR 81.1 (9M/01: mEUR 83.8). Based on efficiency improvements and due to higher utilization the gross margin exceeded 51% of sales compared to 47% in the previous quarter (Q3/01: 38%). This trend was supported by the subsidiary SMI, which reached break-even for the first time in the third quarter. Gross profit resulted in mEUR 14.9 for the third quarter (Q3/01: mEUR 9.9) and mEUR 39.1 for the 9M-period (9M/01: mEUR 40.3). The expenditures for research and development amounted to mEUR 4.4 (Q3/01: mEUR 4.3). Marketing and selling expenses reached mEUR 1.5 in the same period (Q3/01: mEUR 1.4), the general and administrative costs mEUR 3.4 (Q3/01: mEUR 2.5). The income before taxes even doubled to mEUR 4.6 (Q3/01: mEUR 2.4) or 16% of sales (Q3/01: 9%). As a result, net income of the third quarter ended up with mEUR 2.7 (Q3/01: mEUR 1.6) or 9% of sales (Q3/01: 6%). The total net income for the 9M-period summed up to mEUR 6.3 (9M/01: mEUR 10.2). Corresponding, the earnings per share reached EUR 0.14 in the third quarter (Q3/01: EUR 0.09), whereas the earnings per share for the 9M-period achieved EUR 0.33 (9M/01: EUR 0.53). The book-to-bill ration reached 1.08 in the third quarter promising a well performing forth quarter.
