Hamburg, February 14th, 2007 - edel music AG will be acquiring the book
division of Pabel-Moewig Verlag KG, Rastatt/Germany, a subsidiary of the
Bauer publishing group. As part of a long-term partnership, it will also be
licensing the exploitation rights for key Bauer group magazine franchises
in the book business, such as 'Perry Rhodan', 'kochen & genießen' and
'selbst ist der Mann'. The purchase price will be in the single-digit
millions (Euro).
Moewig’s portfolio includes 'how-to' books, cookbooks, children’s products
and science fiction as well as calendars and puzzle books. edel will
continue to market the books and products under the Moewig brand, which
will be integrated into edel subsidiary edel entertainment GmbH (formerly
edel records GmbH), with part of the Moewig staff to be taken over by edel.
The acquisition is part of edel’s strategy to substantially extend its
content and service portfolio. Initial synergy effects will be harnessed
immediately, with edel’s successful earBOOKS series to be distributed to
book retail in Germany, Austria and Switzerland via the company’s own
distribution service, which will be additionally enforced by Moewig’s
salesforce team.
