ARQUES appoints Michael Schumann as new CEO
Martin Vorderwülbecke did not sign proposed new long-term contract
Stable management is now assured as all executive board members have
long-term appointments
Starnberg, January, 17, 2008 - At its meeting on January 17, 2008 the
supervisory board of ARQUES Industries AG (ISIN DE0005156004) has appointed
Dr. Michael Schumann as new CEO, effective February 1st 2008.
The supervisory had offered to extend Martin Vorderwülbecke´s contract and
appointment by at least three years. The existing contract was set to
expire by autumn 2008. Vorderwülbecke was not prepared, however, to give
such a long commitment. The new CEO Michael Schumann is one of the founders
of ARQUES. As Board Member Acquisitions he is to a large extent responsible
for ARQUES´ continuous growth. Together with the other longstanding ARQUES
managers Felix Frohn-Bernau (Exit) and Bernd Schell (Operations) all board
members are now appointed with long lasting contracts.
Dr. Michael Schumann, 46, has a business degree, is married and has two
children. Before joining companies together with the ARQUES management team
in 1999, starting ARQUES, he worked in conglomerates (Krupp,
Treuhandanstalt) and founded a publishing house. He was head of
acquisitions, in 2006 appointed executive board member.
Dr. Georg Obermeier, chairman of the supervisory board: 'The growth and
success of ARQUES and the incorporation to MDAX request long term stability
in the executive board. We’d like to thank Dr. Martin Vorderwülbecke for
his valuable work and respect his personal decision not to sign the new
long-term contract offered to him. Dr. Michael Schumann is one of the
founding fathers of ARQUES and therefore a guarantee for continuing success
and continuity in the proven business model.'
Dr. Martin Vorderwülbecke: 'The outlook for 2008 is bright due to the
well-established business model, high professional quality of the ARQUES
team and the high quality of the ARQUES portfolio companies. The financial
community has started to ask in the last weeks about me extending again my
contract. At that point the question wasn't on my agenda at all. But being
in the MDAX merits this request. For personal reasons I have now decided
not to commit myself in such a long-term way. This decision was made easier
for me as a naturally qualified successor is at hand, Michael Schumann. My
family is eager to see me more often after some intense professional years.
I have not planned for a new professional activity.'
Dr. Michael Schumann: 'ARQUES is confirming its outlook for 2007 and 2008,
both revenue and profit wise. We will continue with the proven business
model, however will see to it that nobody could confuse ARQUES with a
private equity company. We will focus on ARQUES core competence, being the
take over of difficult companies from corporates and there subsequent
intense turnaround.'
Martin Vorderwülbecke bought more ARQUES shares just a few days ago and has
intention to keep them. He will not receive further payments by ARQUES such
as pensions or payments under a stock option scheme nor will he become
member of the supervisory board. He would like to thank all colleagues
within ARQUES for their professional and amicable support and the investors
in the capital markets.'
ARQUES is hosting Capital Market Days in Frankfurt on January 22nd and in
London on February 23rd. All members of the executive board and also some
subsidiary managers and some task force members will explain their daily
work and be available for one-on-one discussions.
Friday, November 18, a press conference will be held in Hotel Bayerischer
Hof, Galery II, Promenadeplatz 2-6 in Munich at 11 am and a conference call
at 4 pm Munich time. The dial-in number will be published on the website
www.arques.de.
