MeVis Group's interactive reporting heralds a new generation of
preoperative planning for liver surgery

Bremen, August 18, 2009 - MeVis Medical Solutions AG announced today the
successful launch of its new, interactive reporting format for preoperative
planning in liver surgery. The outstanding features of the new format are
its high degree of system independence and ease of handling, which further
increase the clinical benefit for surgeons. The planning information
contained in each report is supplied in the PDF format from Adobe Systems,
Inc., making it easily accessible for all the physicians involved.

MeVis Distant Services offer an exceptional worldwide service for
preoperative planning of liver surgery. The tumor volumetry, the complex
vascularization of the liver and at-risk vascular territories are all
precisely calculated. This enhances the quality of surgical planning and
thus helps to significantly increase the safety and success rate of
interventions - both for the removal of liver tumors and for liver
donations from living donors.

MeVis serves its clinical end-customers direct from Bremen (Germany) and
Pewaukee (USA), where MeVis Distant Services employ specially trained
radiology technicians under expert medical supervision. Dedicated software
developed by MeVis is used to process the slices into three-dimensional
data. This software received clearance from the FDA (Food and Drug
Administration) in the USA and was CE-certified in 2005.

Thanks to the new form of reporting, liver surgeons are now able to obtain
an even more precise picture of the liver, taking into account the relative
position of all structures. The Clinician is not required to use
specialized software or a particular operating system, so the analytical
data can be easily exchanged with colleagues in other specialties,
considerably simplifying the discussion of treatment options - for example,
at interdisciplinary tumor conferences.

The image information required for surgical planning is provided
interactively in the new reporting format. Within the PDF report, the
images can be simply rotated in all planes and enlarged to suit the
intraoperative conditions.

Since the commercial service began in 2005, MeVis has gained more than 150
customers around the world. In the meantime, the company has carried out
over 4,000 risk analyses at its Bremen facility. 'Our new interactive 3D
reporting format enables us to fulfill the requirement of our customers ?
in both surgical departments and associated clinics ? for the most
efficient and effective reporting of our planning results. Our aim in
changing over to the interactive form of reporting is to increase customer
satisfaction still further in this area', explains Dr Carl J.G. Evertsz,
CEO of MeVis Medical Solutions AG.

Leading international liver surgeons now use the MeVis service routinely
for the operations they perform, which involve living donor transplantation
in over fifty percent of cases. Precise planning of the liver volume to be
harvested from the donor is essential because the donor must not be put at
risk under any circumstances. The enhanced quality of surgical planning
means that the safety and success rates of the interventions themselves can
be maximized. Furthermore, unnecessary operations are avoided, and patient
stress is reduced accordingly. Dr. Evertsz: 'So you see, MeVis Distant
Services also help to relieve the burden on the state health care system'.

MeVis Medical Solutions is one of the world's leading independent
manufacturers and vendors of software products for medical imaging,
particularly digital radiology. Over the past few years, there has been an
enormous increase in the complexity and volume of medical imaging data
derived from digital imaging processes such as computed tomography (CT) and
magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). MeVis Medical Solutions' products analyze
and process this data in such a way as to provide attending physicians with
crucial information for early detection, diagnosis and intervention in the
areas of cancer and lung diseases as well as neurological conditions. The
Company develops its disease-oriented software solutions in close
consultation with the world's leading medical experts and original
equipment makers in the medical technology sector and primarily markets
this software via these partnerships.
