Funkwerk makes electronic health card and billing more secure for doctors
and patients
Kölleda/Nuremberg, 24 November 2009. The introduction of the electronic
health card (eGK) in Germany has now started. It is to provide many
advantages and improvements for the insured, but also for doctors and
health insurance companies. A crucial issue for the nationwide use of the
eGK is data security. Here, Funkwerk has now joined with Deutsche Telekom
to provide an innovative full-service solution for doctor's practices and
medical facilities. Certified to the highest standard, 'Medical Exchange'
ensures a quick and secure transfer of data between medical practices and
the 'SafeNet' of the German Associations of Statutory Health Insurance
Physicians (KV) to facilitate online billing.
From 2011, online billing will become mandatory for the around 200,000
statutory health insurance physicians, therapists and nonmedical
practitioners in Germany. To pave the way into easier and more secure
electronic processes in their daily work, the Associations of Statutory
Health Insurance Physicians are now providing KV SafeNet. This is a
patented network separate from the Internet which is dedicated exclusively
to statutory health insurance physicians, psychotherapists and medical
institutes. It enables doctors to perform many of the tasks arising on a
day-to-day basis (documentation, billing, exchange of patient data) easily
by electronic means.
Since this process will involve eGK data provided by the patient, a
particular level of security is required here. The 'Medical Exchange' is a
full package which includes a generally already existing DSL connection,
the Medical Exchange 100 router from Funkwerk, certified to comply with the
latest KV SafeNet standard, and the KV SafeNet to ensure that sensitive
data are protected as best as possible from outside access and even from
unauthorised use on other computers in the practice.
New 'eHealth' market segment with potential volume in the millions
'Medical Exchange allows us, in cooperation with Deutsche Telekom, to open
up a new market segment. We believe that eHealth has a potential sales
volume for Medical Exchange products in the two-digit millions over the
next few years,' Johann Schmid-Davis, Managing Director of Funkwerk
Enterprise Communications GmbH, the company responsible for this aspect of
business, says explaining the significance of the project.
Medical Exchange is, at the same time, a further opportunity to develop the
joint partner model of Funkwerk and Deutsche Telekom for the marketing of
telecommunication products for private and business customers. Since early
2009, the two companies have already been involved in the joint marketing
of the exclusive TC system Eumex 401. 'These Telekom projects as references
enable us as a manufacturer of integrated communication solutions to
establish ourselves even more firmly in the market,' underlines
Schmid-Davis, also the CFO of Funkwerk AG since September 2009.
Funkwerk Enterprise Communications (FEC) is a European provider of
professional network and com-munication solutions. The company addresses
professional users such as companies and authorities as well as carriers
and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) with market-driven, reliable,
high-quality products and solutions from its four areas of competence - IP
access, security, voice and WLAN. On the whole, Enterprise Communications
employs around 140 staff at several locations in Europe. FEC is fully owned
