E981.12 integrates UARTs, thus leading to low system costs

Dortmund: With the E981.12, ELMOS introduces the first dual IO-Link master
transceiver worldwide.

IO-Link is a low cost communication system at the lowest level of
industrial automation. It allows for the communication of the conventional
binary-switch interface between sensors/actuators and controller (PLC) at
up to 230 kbit/s for the first time.

The IC integrates two UARTs. This innovation offers a scalable
implementation of multi-port systems (2-/4-/8-/16-port) to the customer -
regardless of the number of UARTs of the µC in use. The UART solution
provided by the E981.12 reduces system costs significantly as no expensive
µC with UARTs must be applied. However, the UARTs integrated into the µC
can also be used of course.

The power supply and configurable current limiting of the sensors (L+) can
optionally be provided through external power FETs, lowering power loss
considerably below 100mW per channel.

The E981.12 has an SPI interface for configuration, programming, and
diagnostics. The safety features include overvoltage and short-circuit
protection with configurable thresholds. The E981.12 - Dual IO-Link Master
Transceiver made by ELMOS comes in the space-saving QFN44L7 package and has
an input voltage range from 8V to 32V.

E981.12 samples and evaluation boards are now available.

The E981.12 Dual IO-Link Master Transceiver is the latest member of the
ELMOS IO-Link family. Among other products, ELMOS offers the E981.10 -
Basic IO-Link Transceiver for sensors and actuators as well.

Both components are also available from our cooperation partner Renesas as
a 'system in one package' (SIP). This all-in-one solution consists of a
Renesas microcontroller (78K0R), an IO-Link V1.1 compatible TMG software
stack, and the ELMOS IC.
