VERBIO SUBSIDIARY MÄRKA GMBH SELLS OFF KEY SITES

Zörbig/Leipzig, 27 June 2013 * Before this year’s harvest gets underway, Märka GmbH has successfully sold off twelve of its main sites in the German regions of Brandenburg, Saxony and Thuringia. Eleven have been bought by Hauptgenossenschaft Nord AG, Kiel (HaGe), while the storage facility for pesticides in Grossbothen has been acquired by AGRAVIS Raiffeisen AG. A fair total price in the double-digit millions has been agreed. The sale to HaGe is subject to the approval of Germany’s Federal Cartel Office. In addition to acquiring land and buildings, the purchasers are going to take over all the 70 people employed at the sites concerned.

In its ad hoc disclosure dated 30 April 2013, VERBIO Vereinigte BioEnergie AG (VERBIO) first announced its intention to dispose of its subsidiary Märka GmbH as part of the strategic realignment of its raw materials procurement and to concentrate on its core business – the production of biofuels. VERBIO is responding to changes affecting the biofuel industry and the market in terms of both procurement and sales.

Claus Sauter, CEO of VERBIO AG, said: ‘We are delighted by these successful transactions, which reflect Märka’s efficient, well-equipped collection centres and its well-trained workforce. We are reviewing a number of strategic options for the remaining sites and negotiations are underway with potential buyers.’
