Aurelius sells healthcare activity of brightONE to T-Systems
– Strategic market entry for T-Systems
– brightONE Healthcare (HC) number four in the market
Munich, December 20, 2013 – The Munich-based AURELIUS Group (ISIN DE000A0JK2A8) has sold the healthcare activity of its brightONE subsidiary. The buyer is T-Systems International GmbH, the IT subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom AG, for which the transaction represents a further step in becoming an integrated player in the healthcare IT segment. The former business units of the Finland-based Tieto Group in Germany and the Netherlands have been generating total annual revenues of approximately EUR 110 million in recent years. Within this total, revenues of around EUR 20 million are attributable to the healthcare activities. T-Systems is also acquiring the service and maintenance business run from India alongside the German and Dutch units. This strategic acquisition gives Deutsche Telekom’s IT subsidiary access to the lucrative German and Dutch healthcare markets, which is reflected in the purchase price accordingly. The transaction is subject to approval by the relevant antitrust authorities.
The new owner, T-Systems, knows the company very well as it has been brightONE HC’s biggest customer. The two companies have enjoyed a strong business relationship going back many years. The move provides T-Systems with the best possible strategic access to the healthcare market. ‘We’re absolutely delighted to announce this success,’ says Dr. Dirk Markus, CEO of AURELIUS. ‘Everyone involved will benefit from this move. The employees and the activity have found a strong partner and T-Systems can position itself in the burgeoning healthcare market.’ In its short time as an AURELIUS subsidiary, brightONE has performed extremely well. The main product of the healthcare activity is iMedOne, an innovative, all-round hospital information system.
The healthcare business being spun off from brightONE is number four in the German market. Besides iMedOne in Germany, the core business mainly comprises activities involving hospital databases. The iMedOne and iMedOne mobile hospital information systems support processes in hospitals in many different ways. Both systems provide a major contribution to economic efficiency and enhanced quality, and make the work of both doctors and nursing staff much easier. ‘The acquisition is the most important step for our business segment this year. As a result, we will become one of the leading providers in this high-revenue sector,’ said Dr. Axel Wehmeier, Head of the Health Solutions business of T-Systems. The service and maintenance business will be run from India as before.
Mummert & Company, an independent, international corporate finance consultancy based in Munich, acted as sole advisor to AURELIUS for this transaction.
Today, Friday, December 20, 2012 at 3.00 pm CET the Executive Board of AURELIUS will conduct a telephone conference for interested investors and members of the press. To sign-up, please send an email to [email protected] .
