Elmos Semiconductor AG: Stepper motor driver with stall detection

E523.30/37 for automotive applications with LIN2.x interface

With the E523.30/37, Elmos is presenting a motor driver for bipolar stepper
motors. The sensorless end position / stall detection is a special
highlight. For the most demanding motor position detection requirements, up
to 3 additional Hall sensors or potentiometers can also be connected to the
IC. The Elmos component can be integrated directly into the actuator which
saves on installation space.

In addition to angular positioning, another highlight of the E523.30 is
that the modules are addressed with LIN Auto-Addressing. Alternatively,
this module can also be controlled with a PWM interface. A version without
LIN-Auto-Addressing is also available (E523.37).

The components are also available with a "ready to use" LIN2.1 or LIN1.3
software and PC-GUI option. The tool environment and compact LIN routines
can be made available for in-house software development.

Potential application fields or applications for the E523.30/37 include
stepper motors or DC drives for a variety of automotive applications such
as radiator grill shutter, headlight or valve controllers.

The ICs feature a microcontroller, 8K Flash memory, 4K ROM and a 64 byte
EEPROM. The voltage range is 5.5 to 18 V (load dump up to 42 V). The
current limiting is controlled at the driver stage and can reach up to
2x800mA. The module only consumes 50µA in sleep mode. The product is
available in a QFN32L6 housing.
