Bloomsbury latest Sarah J. Maas novel - House of Flame and Shadow - reaches Number 1 globally on Amazon

1 February 2024, LONDON: Bloomsbury, the leading independent publisher, is pleased to announce that Sarah J. Maas' latest novel, House of Flame and Shadow, which was launched on 30 January 2024, has reached Number 1 globally on Amazon.  This includes reaching #1 in the US, UK, Australia, Germany, France, Sweden and Spain.

House of Flame and Shadow is the third instalment in the Crescent City series, following global bestsellers House of Earth and Blood and House of Sky and Breath. This is Sarah J. Maas' 16th book, all of which have been published by Bloomsbury.  In addition, we have a further six books under contract with Sarah J. Maas.

As reported in our interim results in October, Sarah J. Maas sales grew by 79% year-on-year, reflecting strong backlist sales across all three series: A Court of Thorns and Roses, Throne of Glass and Crescent City.

Fantasy has become extremely popular around the world. According to Nielsen Bookscan, in the UK the Fantasy and Sci-Fi genre has grown by 54% in the last five years.  At Bloomsbury, we are fortunate to represent not only Sarah J. Maas, but many other high-profile authors in the genre, including epic fantasy bestseller Samantha Shannon, Women's Prize winner Susanna Clarke, iconic storyteller Alan Moore, and Cixin Liu, whose Three Body Problem series is soon to be a huge Netflix release. Bloomsbury continues to invest in the remarkable talent to be found within fantasy writing through our newly launched Bloomsbury General list.
