The Rockwool Group's factory in Istria is ready to resume the test-production. The relevant authorities have now approved the factory design including the deviations from the original building permit which was the reason for the stoppage of the test production in November 2007. A new authorisation to start test production has been issued and the factory is expected to resume production in the 2nd half of August.
The test period will last 6 months in which it will be shown that the factory can be run to the satisfaction of the local authorities. After a successful test period, the Rockwool Group will receive the final operation permit
The factory has been part of a heated debate. Several local groups which are in favour of only developing the region within tourism and agriculture have opposed industrial projects in the area including the Rockwool Group's production of insulation materials. The Rockwool Group wants to be a valued part of the local society in which its factories are placed and the Group is confident that this will also be the case in Istria.
The factory fully complies with environmental permits. It is based on the Group's newest technology and lives up to the European Union BAT (Best Available environment Technology) requirements. The factory is designed with environmental equipment fulfilling both Croatian and EU requirements.
