Slowdown continued, but July best month so far

Just below two million passengers passed through Copenhagen Airport in July. This represents a 6.8% year-on-year fall. However, the rate of decline was lower than in the preceding months of 2009.

"Although the number of passengers continued to fall, July was still the best month of the year so far. There were many holiday travellers in July, and the figures confirm that, in spite of the economic downturn, the Danes have only to a minor extent stopped travelling on holiday," said Carsten Nørland, VP Aviation, Copenhagen Airports A/S.

July is traditionally the busiest travel month at Copenhagen Airport, and a total of 1,991,335 passengers travelled through the airport in July this year. The number of locally departing passengers fell by 4.2%, while the number of transfer passengers was 17.7% lower than in July last year. International traffic fell by 7.6%, while the number of domestic passengers increased by 3.5% year-on-year.

"The fall in passenger numbers has slowed down in recent months as compared with the situation during the spring. We are very pleased that this trend continued in July. However, it remains uncertain how passenger numbers will develop after the summer holiday period when the number of business travellers will again play a major role in the overall picture," said Nørland.
