Download Source FileGrowth continues at Copenhagen Airport
The number of passengers at Copenhagen
Airport in February rose by 5.5% relative to February 2010 to more than 1.5
million. Middle East unrest prevented even higher passenger numbers.
In total, 1,522,458 passengers travelled through Copenhagen Airport in
February. This is a 5.5% increase over the number of passengers in February
2010, and year-to-date the number of passengers is up by 7.0%.
“Growth continues in both domestic and international traffic, but the drop in
charter traffic indicates that the unrest in the Middle East - particularly
Egypt - has dampened overall growth as both Danish charter operators and Egypt
Air cancelled almost all flights to Egypt in February,” explained Carsten
Nørland, VP, Sales and Marketing for Copenhagen Airport. Egypt Air resumed
flights to and from Cairo February 27th.
The number of international passengers rose 6.0%, domestic traffic rose 1.8%,
while the number of transfer passengers was down by 4.2%.
“Domestic traffic grew less than in the preceding months, but this was expected
as we are now seeing the full-year effect of the many new domestic routes that
opened a year ago", said Nørland.
The highest growth rates were seen on the routes to Paris, Amsterdam and
Frankfurt due to increased competition and greater capacity. This means that
Frankfurt overtook Helsinki on the Top 10 list, which is otherwise unchanged
compared with February 2010. London was again the biggest destination out of
Copenhagen with some 118,000 passengers, representing 2.7% growth relative to
February 2010.
