Bright outlook for SW Umwelttechnik on major orders in Central and Southeastern Europe

  • * EUR 6 m order for drainage system for Budapest-Pecs motorway
  • * EUR 4 m order for shopping centre in Slovakia
  • * Record EUR 59.1m order backlog as per 31st May 2008
  • * Excellent earnings performance in first five months of year

SW Umwelttechnik - a Vienna listed family firm with its core markets in Central and Southeastern Europe (CSE) - is continuing to record strong book growth. The environmental technology company''s Water Conservation and Infrastructure business sectors have recently won major contracts in all their main markets (Austria, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia). SW Umwelttechnik has gained market shares in CSE, and has full order books despite weak construction activity in Hungary, and not yet started public investment in Romania.

Order backlog stood at a record EUR59.1m at the end of May 2008. Hungary remained the largest geographical market, accounting for 62% of all orders. Meanwhile Romania''s contribution continued to rise, reaching 20%. The breakdown in terms of business sectors - 57% Infrastructure sector, 24% Water Conservation and 18% Engineering - reflects the growing importance of industrial and commercial customers for SW Umwelttechnik.

Hungary

Despite adverse economic conditions the Water Conservation and Infrastructure sectors are executing three new projects in Hungary. SW Umwelttechnik has won a contract worth a total of EUR6m to supply pipes, man holes and channels for the M6/M60 motorway between Budapest and Pecs which is currently under construction. The project is already in under way, and the final deliveries should be made by mid-2009.

The company has also won a EUR2.5m order to supply precast elements for shopping centres in Miskolc and Budapest by October 2008. And it has picked up a EUR1.5m contract, due for completion by the end of the year, for the drainage system at an industrial park in Komarom.

Romania

SW Umwelttechnik is continuing to make strong progress in Romania. At the start of this week the company received an order for precast elements and floor systems worth EUR2.5m to the Cotroceni Park mall development in Bucharest.

Slovakia

Marketing efforts in Slovakia have also been highly successful. SW Umwelttechnik has won a EUR4m contract for the supply and erection of precast members for a shopping centre in Presov; completion is scheduled for October 2008.

Austria

The fish ladder developed by SW Umwelttechnik is attracting widespread attention in Austria. The installation of a multi-level fish pass at Heiligenblut on the River Möll marked the second order win for this innovative technology. The "Villach barrage" - the reference project for the fish ladder is being monitored by the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, Vienna, and results have so far been highly encouraging. The

researchers are due to hand in their final report on the pilot project in September.

Property The sale of a six hectare site in Budapest that is surplus to operational requirements, agreed in a frame contract last year, is expected to be completed in June 2008. The EUR7m proceeds are to be invested in expansion in Romania. SW Umwelttechnik has other surplus properties, acquired in connection with investment projects, with a market value of about EUR10m, and will be disposing of them over the next years in order to strengthen its financial base.

Outlook

Management believes that the excellent order book position confirms its fullyear guidance for 2008, and continues to forecast revenue growth of about 20%. And additionally it expects the strong orders to give a still bigger boost to EBIT, which is seen improving by around 60%.

Founded in 1910, SW Umwelttechnik remains a family business, though it has been listed on the Vienna Stock Exchange since 1997. The group is widely identified with sustainable enterprise and rapid expansion in Central and Southeastern Europe (CSE). Its innovative environmental technology products are contributing to infrastructure renewal in CSE.
