GDF SUEZ and Swiss company Gaznat have entered into a 10-year supply contract. At the conclusion of this agreement, GDF SUEZ will be supplying almost one-third of Gaznat's natural gas requirements, the equivalent of approximately 300 million m3 between October 2009 and September 2019.
Both companies are delighted with this new contract, which represents an extension of their 30-year collaboration. Gaznat, which recently celebrated its 40th birthday, is a regional Swiss gas operator supplying natural gas to French-speaking Switzerland. The agreement will enable Gaznat to contribute in a major way to ensuring continuity of supply in Western Switzerland.
"This contract protects GDF SUEZ's position as Gaznat's second biggest supplier in the coming decade and comes on the back of the strengthening of our partnership with Swiss company Gas Verbund Mitteland AG (GVM) in 2007. It means that the Group is now Western Switzerland's leading supplier of natural gas," stated Jean-Marie Dauger, Executive Vice President of GDF SUEZ in charge of Global Gas & LNG .
GDF SUEZ posted turnover of 300 million euros in Switzerland in 2007. The Group is active in Switzerland as a supplier of natural gas, a provider of energy services via subsidiaries Axima and Cofathec, and in the water treatment industry via Degrémont.
One of the leading energy providers in the world, GDF SUEZ is active across the entire energy value chain, in electricity and natural gas, upstream to downstream. It develops its businesses (energy, energy services and environment) around a responsible-growth model to take up the great challenges: responding to energy needs, ensuring the security of supply, fighting against climate change and maximizing the use of resources. GDF SUEZ relies on diversified supply sources as well as flexible and high-performance power generation in order to provide innovative energy solutions to individuals, cities and businesses. The Group employs 196,500 people worldwide and achieved revenues of €74.3 billion in 2007. GDF SUEZ is listed on the Brussels, Luxembourg and Paris stock exchanges and is represented in the main international indices: CAC 40, BEL 20, DJ Stoxx 50, DJ Euro Stoxx 50, Euronext 100, FTSE Eurotop 100, MSCI Europe and ASPI Eurozone.
