TomTom, Waze and Navfree: The widest range of navigation options!
Parrot has again improved its navigation Apps offering via its Parrot ASTEROID range of connected solutions for in-car use.
Parrot ASTEROID Smart and ASTEROID Tablet users can now benefit from more choices of navigation provider: TomTom, with its all-round world-class offering; Waze, the world's fastestgrowing community-based traffic and navigation app, or Navfree - an 'opensource' map application, updated by active members.
Free or paid-for, 'On Board' or 'Off Board', each driver can find a navigation App that will suit their needs when connecting to the ASTEROID Market.
With TomTom for ASTEROID, customers benefit from a premium and complete navigation solution.
The TomTom app uses offline maps - uploaded on the SD card of the Parrot ASTEROID Smart or Tablet - which remain fully functional even without network connection and incur no additional roaming charges when traveling abroad.
Drivers can take advantage of TomTom's unique know-how in the navigation field: fast route calculation with IQ; clear voice instructions with spoken street names;
finding the most fuel-efficient routes; navigating using your contact details from your phonebooks; identifying point of interests, including shops, hotels and restaurants… Multitasking, the Parrot ASTEROID range allows users to listen to TomTom voice instructions while
Waze offers drivers a free community-based navigation and traffic App. All Waze members receive real time map updates and information on driving conditions. Thanks to an interface customised for the ASTEROID environment, users can benefit from many features such as: speed radar alert, speed reduction; route calculations based on real time driving conditions; live chat with other community members…
Navfree is a free 'On Board' navigation App available to Parrot ASTEROID Smart and Tablet users. Based on the 'open source' map from OpenStreetMap, maps are continually updated and improved through a network of 400 000 worldwide registered members. Features include voice instructions, and best route calculations in a matter of seconds… Searching for a destination can also be achieved via Google or Microsoft Bing search engines (Internet access is needed). One tap on the Parrot ASTEROID Smart or Tablet touch screen allows users to select a point on the map, and to start navigating there right away.
When users of one the Parrot ASTEROID in-car multimedia connected solutions download a navigation App, such as TomTom, Navfree or iGo, the maps are saved directly onto the products SD card (available with Parrot ASTEROID Smart and Tablet only).
Maps and route calculations are then permanently available at anytime and anywhere without having to have an Internet connection to load them; therefore they are considered 'On Board'.
On the other hand, to use the free Waze App (compatible with the Parrot ASTEROID Smart, Tablet and Mini devices) the system must be connected to the Internet in order to operate and update maps and route calculations during the journey. In this system the maps are not physically located on the unit, but available via online connection and are therefore considered to be is 'Off Board'..
To provide consumers with more and more innovative services, Parrot has made a free ASTEROID Sotware Development Kit available to developers at https://devzone.parrot.com.
Renowned partners or independent developers can take advantage of tutorials, examples and numerous tools, and benefit from the support of a dedicated technical team, from the conception of new Apps to their sales on the Parrot ASTEROID Market.
Even though you have a hands-free solution: always be careful on the road! Driving requires your full attention. A Bluetooth® hands-free solution reduces the risk of distractions while driving, but does not avoid them completely.
